Editorial A time to rejoice On 2 February, the day dedicated to the Consecrated Life, the Members of the Region of Malta gathered at the Central House to receive The Rule of Life. It was a day to remember, when in the presence of Msgr Lawrence Gatt, the General Superior presented a copy of The Rule to all the Members. The First General Chapter of our Society, held in 1994, gave a mandate to the General Executive Council to abide with the Church’s desire to renew its Rule of Life in the light of the charisma lived by the Founder. The process was concluded during the General Chapter of 1999 and today, thanks to the pains and efforts of many, we have the renewed Rule. A second event that gave the Society a reason to rejoice was when three Members from the Region of Malta left for Peru. Carmelo Spiteri, Joe Buttigieg and Tonio Farrugia set on a new venture to start the Society in this Latin American country. The verb ‘start’ is in reality not exact, for the Society has long ‘existed’ in Peru by Fr Carlos Azzopardi, a diocesan priest who was a Member of our Society and served both in Malta and Australia. Yet the greatest source of rejoicing is the particular liturgical time we are living. As SDC Members, we who treasure so much the mystery of the Incarnation and Redemption, are about to celebrate this greatest of all liturgical feasts. Let us prepare ourselves for the coming Holy Week special programme, a programme that surpasses all the other special programmes we have in our Society. I also take this opportunity to wish you all a Holy Easter.
