Mid-Dlam ghad-Dawl has been accepted as an associate member of the European Group for Prisoners Abroad (EGPA) in April 2003. One third of the prison population in Malta is made up of foreigners, coming mostly from Arab countries. On the other hand, only a very small number of Maltese citizens are incarcerated in prisons abroad, mostly in Europe.

Through its association with EGPA, Mid-Dlam ghad-Dawl strengthens its work with foreign prisoners in Malta, including their families, and also with Maltese prisoners detained in foreign countries whose families reside in Malta.
