L-ARKA (The Ark) is the name of the official
quarterly newsletter issued by the administrative officials of
Mid-Dlam ghad-Dawl. The publication is sent free of charge, and
distributed
to all prisoners and many of their families.
Mid-Dlam ghad-Dawl's newsletter originally began
in December 1996, and was named simply Mid-Dlam ghad-Dawl. This
was discontinued in February 1998 due to the fact that Mid-Dlam
ghad-Dawl had started to have a regular write-up column in the
widely read newspaper It-Torca. In 2000, however, while
the column in the newspaper was not dropped, the publication was
resumed under the new title, L-ARKA,
and is now issued regularly.
Some 450 copies are printed
quarterly, of which around 400 go to the prisoners themselves.
Since
the newsletter is distributed locally it is written exclusively
in Maltese. However, as from February 2004, a version of the
newsletter in English began to be distributed to foreign prisoners
held in Malta entitled:
The
ARK
From February 2008, the publication began to be published bi-lingually (Maltese and English) |
