WORLD SOCIETY OF VICTIMOLOGY

Volunteering to support victims of crime is a noble endevour. In the name of society, you will be called to give empathy, endearment, and particular attention to suffering people.

Training

Working as a volunteer with Victim Support Malta entails from four to at least six full days of training. This preparation is obligatory for any further consideration of a volunteer application. Training is not given individually, but in groups. This is done periodically, maybe twice a year or, if need, more frequently. If accepted, you will be invited to attend the upcoming training sessions.

How the system works

A coodinator will be dealing with all victim referrals that come to Victim Support Malta. After assessing each case, to gauge its severity and need of support, the coordinator will then assign cases to individual volunteers for one-to-one intervention. As a volunteer, you will be asked to contact the victim as soon as possible, arrange an appointing at your, and the victim's, convenience, and meet. The coordinator would have already filled you up with some information, but this depends on how much will be available at the time. At the preliminary meeting with the victim, you will have to get the basic details of the case and the victim's condition. Together with the coordinator, you draw up a plan for more insensive intervention. From now onwards, it will be your duty to keep in contact with the victim throughout his or her whole recovery process.
