The present

At present, the main objectives of Victim Support Malta's administration are the following:

• Reorganising the Steering Committee on a sounder basis.

• Securing a better and more solid relationship with government.

The future: Development plans

On a short-term basis VSM plans to:

• Consolidate the financial and book-keeping aspects of the service.

• Engage a further paid worker to act as either administrator or trainer in order to enhance VSM's prospects.

On a long-term basis VSM plans to:

• Offer training opportunities in victim-related issues to judges, magistrates, lawyers and other professionals within the criminal justice system, and also to the police.

• Develop consultancy services to business enterprises in relation to workplace violence.

• Introduce victim-offender mediation services.

• Introduce court witness services.

The past

Victim Support Malta was established in June 2004, and made an official foundation (enjoying legal persnality) on July 28, 2006. During these years of operation it registered the following notable accomplishments, namely:

• The professional technical and logistical structure of the service was successfully set up.

• The concept of the service was successfully launched amongst local professionals, who gave it a warm welcome, and appeared to be very eager to see it bloom and blossom.

• A handsome number of enthusiastic volunteers have been successfully attracted to the service.

• Membership to high-status international bodies of mostly prestigious organisations has been successfully secured.

• VSM has successfully established a consistently sound reputation on the international pan-European scene.

• A central office at Malta’s capital city, Valletta, had been opened and run by a reliable administrator.

• A formal agreement with the Police Force to receive clients from the Criminal Investigation Department had been secured.

• VSM had been established as an independent and autonomous legal entity.
