Nifs
Gdid
(New Breath)
"Nifs Gdid" (meaning New Breath) is Mid-Dlam
ghad-Dawl's support meetings for the relatives of prisoners.
These meetings were began in 1995, since the organisation's establishment.
The Family Support Group, in fact, was begun in September of
1995. Then it met on a weekly basis.
Today, the group meets regularly on a fortnightly
basis, and it is run on a professional basis. All meetings begin
at 6.30 pm and end at 8.00 pm.
The meetings are always fairly well-attended.
We usually have an average of ten to fifteen families of prisoners
meeting together. The discussions are always very lively and
vivacious. These discussion are usually built around general
themes, obviously with particular emphasis on the prison experience
all those present will be going through. The sole aim of meetings
is to provide support for the families of prisoners.
From time to time, especially during feast days
or during the hot summer months, out-door activities
are organised instead of formal discussion meetings.
These meetings are extremely important to Mid-Dlam
ghad-Dawl. The families of prisoners are a type of indirect victims
of crime, and as such need great attention, sensitivity and caring.
