Maltese version

The permit you are given at Court to visit your loved one at the Juvenile Section (click here to see how to obtain it) gives you the advantage of receiving telephone calls from him. Telephone calls can only be made after your first visit to the prisons. Do not forget: No visit can be made if you do not produce your personal ID card/passport/driving licence. ALWAYS GO FOR VISITS AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE ESTABLISHED TIME.

Your loved one can:

  • Receive your visits on any three days from Monday to Friday. These visits are held from behind a glass screen (called a "non-contact visit"). On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays visits begin at 4.00 pm; on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10.00 am. Each visit lasts 15 minutes. You may choose to visit on any three of the five days at the appointed time. For the first visit you need to announce your arrival prior to the visit. Than, it is your loved one who books the rest of the visits. There are no visits on feast days.
  • Meet you face to face around a table one a week for 90 minutes. This is called a "contact visit". This may be either on Saturday or on Sunday. On both days in the morning the visit starts at 10.00 am; and on Saturday afternoon at 4.00 pm. No visit is possible on Sunday evening. Your loved one must book this visit beforehand, otherwise no visit may be held.
  • Receive an unlimited number of letters from you, but he can send just one letter a day.
  • Receive from you newspapers, books, clothes and/or money every day during visiting time (both in the morning and the evening). You may deposit not more than Lm20 at a time.
  • Receive from you food only on Sunday mornings from 10.00 till 11.30 am, and only if your loved one had booked for it beforehand, otherwise no food may be left.

For your first visit to the section you need to have a prison permit made for you. This is done at the "Debituri" (Debtors) complex, which is on the left-hand side of the Main Gate entrance of the facility in Valletta Road (No.3 on map).

Contact and non-contact visits are held at the Juvenile complex whose entrance is along side Ghaddafi Gardens. The road leading to Main Gate entrance is close to the lower part of Valletta Road, Paola, very near to the Corradino round-about. However, there is also a short-cut very close to the Paola square. It is the side-entrance to the Handicaps' Rehabilitation Centre, open only during working hours (No.14 on map).

If it is the first time that you are taking to the prisons personal belongings of your loved one you must present them at the "Debituri" complex. This may be done from 9.00 am to 11.00 am, and between 2.00 pm and 3.30 pm, every day except on Sunday afternoons and feast days. If you need to take more personal belongings these must be presented at the Main Gate entrance of the Juvenile Section itself on Saturdays and Sundays, except on Sunday afternoons and feast days.

Money may only be deposited at the "Debituri" every day from 9.00 am to 11.00 am, and between 2.00 pm and 3.30 pm, except on Sunday afternoons and feast days. No money may be deposited at the Main Gate entrance of the Juvenile.
