The permit you are given at Court to visit
your loved one at the prisons (click here to
see how to obtain it) gives you the advantage of receiving
telephone calls from him/her. Telephone calls can only be made
after your first visit to the prisons. Do not forget: No
visit can be made if you do not produce your personal ID card/passport/driving
licence. ALWAYS GO FOR VISiTS AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE
ESTABLISHED TIME.
Since your loved one is sentenced than s/he can:
- Meet you face to face around a table (called a "contact
visit") once a week for 45 minutes between 9.00
am and 11.00 am, and between 2.00 pm and 3.30 pm.
This may be done every day except on Sunday afternoons and
feast days. Your loved one must book this visit beforehand,
otherwise no visit
may
be
held.
- Receive an unlimited number of letters from you, but s/he
can send just one letter a week.
- Receive from you newspapers, books, clothes and/or money
every day during visiting time (both in the morning and the
evening). You may deposit not more than Lm20 at a time.
- Receive from you food every Saturday or Sunday (during
visiting time), and only if your loved one had booked for
it beforehand, otherwise no food may be left.
Your loved one can call you by telephone 4
times a day at any time of the day, but not before 8.00 am
or after
8.00 pm, and nor between 12.30 pm and 3.00 pm.
You may take the personal belongings of your
loved one everyday during visiting hours. This is also done
at the "Debituri" (Debtors') complex (No.3
on map).
For persons held in any division except
in Divisions V, VI and Female contact
and non-contact visits are held at the complex on the left-hand
side of the
Main Gate entrance
of the facility in Valletta Road. This complex is called
the "Debituri".
For persons held in Divisions V, VI
and Female contact and non-contact visits are held
at the complex on the right-hand side of the Paola Police
Station in Valletta Road (No.2 on map).
